Symbols of Ashiya/

City Emblem/ 市章

The emblem of Ashiya City dates from March 31, 1922 when the city was known as Seido Village. The semi-circle and the four horizontal lines indicate the mountains and the sea respectively. The four lines also represent the harmony of the four little townships-Ashiya, Uchide, Sanjo and Tsuji- of which Seido village was then composed. The Semi-circle is also symbolic of the rising sun indicating peace, harmony and prosperity.

City Tree and City Flower/

As a part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of municipality in 1970, the Japanese black pine was established as the city tree because of its beautiful shape and resistance to insect pests. And since the azalea (Rhododendron reticulatum D.Don) is beautiful and grows well, it was established as a city flower.
