Come and join us at the 29th Ashiya Autumn Festival!

We will have processions with danjiri (large wooden carts with decorations in the shape of a shrine or temple going around the city), children’s mikoshi (portable shrines), outdoor stalls and a specialty goods exhibition/sales. Six danjiri carts will appear, and children can join in pulling danjiri carts.
We also have events on the stage including wind instrument music, dance performance and bingo game at which a big prize is ready for the winner.

• Date & Time: Sun., Oct. 8, 8:45 a.m.–3:00 p.m. (It will be called off in the case of heavy rain or high winds.)
• Venue: Seido Elementary School ground and adjacent street on the east side

Applications for Admission to Child Daycare Center for FY2018

Applications for a place for your child to child daycare center for next April will soon be accepted.

• Eligibility: Children who meet all of the following criteria between 1. and 3.

• Application period

• Where to apply: Childrearing Promotion Section, Ashiya City Hall South Wing 1st Floor
• Opening time for application: Weekdays (Mon. to Fri.) 9:00 a.m.–12:00 noon, 12:45 p.m.–5:30 p.m.
  - Exceptionally, application can be made on Sun., Oct. 29 and Sat., Nov. 4
• Application forms: Forms can be obtained at Childrearing Promotion Section, receptions at Ashiya City Hall North/South Wings or Laporte Citizens’ Service Corner from Mon., Oct. 2.
  The forms can also be downloaded from the Ashiya City’s website.

- Please note that if you want to apply for a place in a child daycare center from next January, February or March, you should apply together with the application for a place from next April, if possible. You will need to submit forms for both FY2017 and FY2018.

Please note the following:
- There is no district-based criteria for kindergartens. You can choose whichever kindergarten you wish your child to attend.
- Application forms cannot be obtained or submitted on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays.
- The application form can be submitted to only one kindergarten.
- The maximum number of 4-year-old children who can be admitted Seido Kindergarten in April 2018 is 22. In the case that the number of applicants exceeds 22, a draw for place allocation will be carried out. The kindergarten will be a Municipal Center for Early Childhood Education and Care (combined kindergarten and daycare center) from FY2019.
- Asahigaoka Kindergarten will only have a 5-year-old class from FY2019. The kindergarten will be integrated with Iwazono Kindergarten in April 2020.

• Eligibility: Children with foreign nationality wishing to enter a municipal elementary/junior high school from April in FY2018

• Things you need to bring for application

- Children (born between Apr. 2, 2011 and Apr. 1, 2012) who wish to enter a municipal elementary school need to have a “pre-primary school medical check-up” at the elementary school which they wish to enter.

Guide on Subsidies for Children Attending Foreign Schools in Japan

Parents/Guardians of non-Japanese children attending foreign schools in Japan (schools equivalent to elementary/junior high schools) can receive subsidies.
